A mobile platform built for seamless collaboration in cell biology laboratories
PROJECT TYPE DELIVERABLES End-to-end product design Mobile App Mockups Biotech / Academia TOOLS DURATION Figma 3 months GOAL Improve collaboration and project tracking in cell-biology labs. MY ROLE Conceptualization, Research, High-fidelity product design. User Flows, Information Architecture, Wireframes, Prototyping. BACKGROUND Research laboratories rely heavily on collaboration among researchers, students, and principal investigators. Divergent work backgrounds and internal workflow discrepancies in data handling and experiments performance often obstruct teamwork and stall project progress. In addition, many labs manage project coordination through separate tools, e.g. emails, spreadsheets, notebooks, and messaging apps which often leads to inaccurate communication and oversight. All of this makes it difficult to track experiments, responsibilities, and timelines, slowing research progress and increasing the risk of missed deadlines or lost information. CHALLENGE How might we design a comprehensive mobile interface that integrates project management, task scheduling, and real-time collaboration tailored for biolab environment? Primary users are PhD students, postdocs, lab technicians, and principal investigators. Key pain points identified after conducting interviews: - Constant context switching between tools to store and share data - Difficulty tracking responsibilities and deadlines - Lack of transparency in team progress - Manual tracking of experimental timelines. PROBLEM Cell biology teams need a centralized, mobile-friendly collaboration platform because fragmented tools make it difficult to track experiments, responsibilities, and deadlines, slowing research progress and increasing coordination overhead. Key principles guiding the solution: - Centralize everything by replacing scattered tools with a single workspace - Make progress visible by enabling real-time monitoring of tasks and updates - Reduce cognitive load by presenting complex information in a simple dashboard - Support accountability by assigning ownership and deadlines.
